NE Asia - Japan

James & Jeanne

On March 1st, 2020, Good Stewards Church commissioned James and I on a 2nd round of missions to Japan. We once served as mid-term missionaries in Kawasaki, Japan for 2 1/2 years as honeymooners. In 2013, my family had a chance to visit the same church we served in Kawasaki, Japan during our family vacation. As soon as my husband and I sat down to worship at the church, we both looked at each other in tears, and we instantly knew that God was calling us back to the nation.

But Japan was a land of trauma for me. It was a land where I was faced with suffering, loneliness, racial discrimination, poverty, rejection, and fears. It was a place I did not care to re-visit, let alone, do missions again.

However, our Father God has been diligently working in me; forgiving, healing and transforming for the last 22 years since we left Japan. He restored my heart for Japan and made it a land of embrace from a land of trauma.

He renewed love within me and filled me with His love. He restored my eyes and called it a land that He loves. And He told me that He is not expecting an enormous ministry from me but to simply love them first as He simply loved us first.

This was because another round of restoration is yet to come. This was because God will finish what He began 22 years ago, or even long before. He will not only restore relationships between myself and the people in Japan but also have His people reconciled to Himself. It’s because Missions is about Restoration.

And the second reason for being re-commissioned is to be a bridge that connects generations.

Just as Jesus connected us to the Father, we want to be a bridge that connects His people to Jesus. It will be an honor and privilege to be stepped on, so that next generations may use us as their stepping stones to carry the Gospel as disciples of Jesus.

We are going ahead so that we can prepare a small path for next generations to be witnesses in Jerusalem, all Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. We desire to fulfill His calling as we connect generations to generations, tribes to tribes, and this earth to His Kingdom.

Contents of ministry:

– New school development: Christian international boarding middle school called Global Christian Academy, located in Oyama, near Fuji mountain, about 2 hours northwest of Tokyo
